ESRS Bureau of Women & Child Affairs Established GBV One-Stop Center

Jigjiga (Cakaaranews) Saturday 4th November 2017. ESRS Bureau of women & child affairs at first time established gender based violence (GBV) one stop center at Karamara Hospital of Jigjiga city. This center offers medical, psycho-social counseling and legal services to survivors of gender based violence and child abuse which is mostly women and children.

ESRS Women & child affairs bureau head Ms. Rahma Mahamoud Haybe told to the media that the center will play a significant role for responding victims of gender based violence (GBV). She added that the bureau will use the center to provide awareness rising on harms of GBV, eradicating female genital mutilations, early marriage and also child abuse.  In addition to this, the center have special employees who provides all necessary services that the GBV survivors needed, and also hot-line telephone which survivors can call every time they require to get an emergency service. 

“We have so far set up a Hot-line; the toll free number is 8344 and callers will be able to speak to a social worker to access the existing services in the center”said Ms. Rahma.

Furthermore, Beneshangul Gumes region women & child affairs bureau head Ms. Buzinesh Alkadir accompanied with other officials have visited this newly established GBV one stop center on this morning for experience sharing.

Finally, ESRS Women & child affairs bureau head Ms. Rahma Mahamoud stated that Karamara GBV one stop center will ensure human rights, advancement of gender equality and women’s right. She mentioned that UNICEF supported establishing and functionalizing of this one stop center.
